About Us
Cole or Mr Cole Black, is our gorgeous, much loved, home bred border collie dog born in 2016. He was called Cole Black as he was the only black in the litter, the rest being blue and playing on the word coal by using the name Cole. His posh name is Kirkbridgend Kairos, Kairos being the Greek god personifying luck and opportunity. Kirkbridgend is our kennel name created from our surname and the surname of some old family friends who left us a little money when they died enabling us to buy our foundation bitch Poppy (Kirkwind Poppet At Kirkbridgend), Cole’s grandmother. (Breeding is something we do rarely, only when we want a new puppy for ourselves and there have only been three Kirkbridgend litters in over 12 years, the third litter being only a singleton which we kept). You can follow Cole and see more pictures of him, his mum, sister and nephew on the Kirkbridgend BorderCollies Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/KirkbridgendBorderCollies
Cole is the loveliest, kindest, gentlest, happiest and friendliest of dogs, he has excellent dog to dog social skills and manners as well as loving people. In fact Cole Loves everyone and everything and definitely his food and treats! He is a much adored family member and spends plenty of time cuddled up on the sofa with us as well as enjoying his walks, food and training and competing at agility and in the show ring.
Unfortunately in June 2023 Cole became very, very ill after an emergency operation at an emergency vet gave him two infections and crashed his immune system and he completely stopped eating, something he has never done before. After spending 10 nights at Anderson Moores specialists he returned now eating a little. He was hugely underweight and still ill but now manageable from home in regular consultation with the vets. He had to move onto a hypoallergenic novel protein diet for six months and we found a good quality German tinned high meat content veterinary, hypoallergenic Kangaroo diet, available from a UK website that Anderson Moores approved. We then got plenty of kangaroo treats, the ones we now sell, so he wouldn’t miss out on treat times when the rest of his doggy family had treats.
Saving Cole left us with a huge vet bill and after finding some great dog treats to use as prizes and gifts at our Wessex Agility Show I had people asking me where to get them. With some encouragement from friends and the offer of having a tradestand at one of the friends Kelluki Agility Show, Cole Loves Dog Treats was born. At the time I still wasn’t sure if Cole was going to survive for long so naming the business after him would ensure he had a legacy as well as helping pay his vet bill. Cole recovered almost fully at the end of December 2023 and gradually moved onto a less restrictive and almost normal diet and returned to his normal weight. In February 2024 after permission from his vet he restarted his agility lessons much to his delight. He went on to win and get placed in some Anysize classes in the middle of April and returned to full height competitive agility in June 2024. As he didn't enjoy competing at full height so much at the end of 2024 he retired to Anysize classes permanently which he really enjoys and does well at. He has continued to be well and now is able to have all of the treats we sell. We still have to be careful with his diet and always will so I am glad to be able to give him such a good range of quality natural treats from his stand.
The photo of Cole used in the logo was taken by Dean of Gemsdale Photography at a Kelluki Hoopers show in 2020/2021 as he went through a tunnel. Dean helped me remove the background and the logo was then created around it. I think it is the perfect photo of Cole, showing how handsome he is with his gorgeous mane as well as how happy he is with his usual bright eyes and big grin.
Cole currently lives with my husband and I, his mother Elektra (Ellie - Kirkbridgend Rock Star), his sister Athena (Thea - Kirkbridgend Athena) and his young nephew Merlin (Thea's son) born in 2025 (awaiting KC name). All of them love taste testing the Cole Loves treats and enjoy some on a daily basis! After so nearly losing Cole in 2023 we appreciate everyday we spend with him and every cuddle and kiss he gives us even more and hope we will be able to have many more years with him.
